CRANBURY, NJ, USA -- Solvay Novecare has developed an innovative range of low- to zero-VOC defoamers that provide solutions for the challenges formulators encounter during the manufacturing and application of low- to-zero VOC coatings.
Solvay's low- to zero-VOC range of defoamers addresses the foaming issues that occur during both the coating manufacturing process and application after storage. The new technology is based on various oil and active ingredient types and is designed to meet different sustainability needs for architectural coatings, water-based industrial coatings, inks and latex processing.
Rhodoline® 621, a new biodegradable vegetable oil defoamer, and Rhodoline® 688, a versatile workhorse mineral oil defoamer, offer excellent efficacy and persistence in formulating low- to zero-VOC flat to semi-gloss waterborne coatings.
Rhodoline® 635 is a zero-VOC oil-based defoamer for in-process defoaming of latexes.
Rhodoline® 635 is recommended for vinyl and acrylic latex processing. It is highly recommended for binders intended for low- to zero-VOC applications.
"With today's emphasis on environmentally sound and sustainable coating formulations, low to-zero VOC formulations contain much less solvent and more surfactants," said Ayaz Khan, technical service marketing manager for Solvay's coatings business. "This means coatings formulators now face more foaming challenges than ever before. Zero-VOC defoamers from Solvay Novecare utilize an innovative technology that not only knocks down foam quickly during paint manufacturing and application, it also maintains defoaming efficiency after incubation."
